Occupational Case Management
Occupational Case Management is a bridge between the occupational and medical elements of an injury that focuses on the abilities of the injured employee while addressing continued medical needs.
Working in tandem with traditional case management, Occupational Case Management includes the insured as part of the rehabilitation team. Working partnerships between the insured, employee, medical providers and claim representatives develop creative return to work plans that bring employees back to work in an appropriate time frame and in a cost effective manner. MEDComp South, Inc. oversees all outside medical intervention.
Occupational Case Management prevents duplication and over utilization of medical services; capitalizes on the available productivity and ability of the injured worker; and optimizes the use of available resources, minimizing unnecessary spending.
More than half of all workers’ compensation claims costs are indemnity pay-out. By placing the injured employee on a Transitional Return to Work Program, MEDComp South, Inc. can help reduce these costs, while complying with the doctor's restricted work release.
MEDComp South, Inc. utilizes a matching system that coordinates work requirements to the injured employee's current abilities. MCS works with the physician and insured to evaluate available accommodations, including a gradual increase of job tasks, a modified duty or alternate work program, or transferring skills to a different work position.
Referrals for Occupational Case Management are usually generated when an insured is unsure how to reasonably accommodate an employee with physical restrictions or a specific work release, or an employee is losing time at work or is back on a limited duty; if the employee cannot safely return to his or her previous job on full duty; or the insured has medical only case management and requires return to work coordination.
